Has anyone traveled to Mexico by car?

Me and My family want to travel to Mexico thus summer, in the D.F. area. But we want to travel by car. Has anyone experienced anything bad or good? I'm kind of scared ay times just thinking about it. But v�a car is the cheapest way to travel.
